Working integrated with the electronic patient records, as a part of the clinical process, CDSS serves messages, makes suggestions, and helps applying new information to the patient care by analyzing patient-specific clinical variables. The CDSSs propose evidence-based nursing diagnosis to the nurses, ensure that the patient benefits from an individually designed extensive care service, and encompass drug warnings, drug interactions, food interactions, medical malpractice prevention systems, audiovisual warning systems, and statistical and reporting systems. In this article, we describe CDSSs and present type of CDSSs used in the cardiovascular surgery nursing field with relevant application examples.
